Cricket South Africa has named a 16-player squad captained by Temba Bavuma for the three-match home ODI series against Australia beginning on 24 September.
Pace Attack Workload Management
Gerald Coetzee earns his first 50-over recall since the 2023 World Cup, reinforcing a fast-bowling unit managed closely by head coach Shukri Conrad. Kagiso Rabada will miss the series to rehabilitate an injury ahead of the upcoming red-ball fixtures, where Marnus Labuschagne retains his place for the visitors. Anrich Nortje remains unselected.
“KG is out of the ODIs and we are constantly monitoring his rehabilitation. When we sit down to select a Test squad, we will make an informed decision. He is tracking nicely, going on reports from physios,” Conrad said.
Senior Batting Availability Confirmed
The selectors opted for Matthew Breetzke and Tristan Stubbs in the middle order, leaving Dewald Brevis out of the squad. Quinton de Kock and David Miller both feature, though franchise commitments will shape their upcoming schedules following South Africa’s recent T20I tri-series victory.
“Quinny is going to be playing whenever we need him to play. ODI cricket is probably Quinny’s best format, and he will play all the ODIs,” Conrad confirmed.
“With the World Cup just over a year away, this series marks an important step in shaping the squad as we build towards the tournament, while also giving those players who are in the frame opportunities when we face Bangladesh and England later in the season,” the coach added.
Kingsmead Stadium hosts the opening fixture on 24 September.
