JioStar and FanCode secure Japan vs India T20I broadcast rights

The Japan Cricket Association has confirmed JioStar and FanCode will broadcast the inaugural senior men’s T20I between Japan and India on September 22. JioStar secured domestic television rights in India, while FanCode took live-streaming coverage for the fixture at the Sano International Cricket Ground.

Rights distributor ITW Universe structured the split-platform strategy to maximise reach and navigate scheduling clashes with the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.

Asian Games Scheduling Conflict

Securing mainstream Indian television space proved challenging because the standalone Suzuki Cup fixture coincides directly with the Asian Games. The men’s match begins at 9:30 AM IST, leaving just a one-hour window before the women’s Asian Games gold-medal match gets underway.

The agreement sets a commercial model for cricket expansion in non-traditional markets. The visit of the reigning Men’s T20 World Cup champions creates a strategic blueprint for growing the sport. FanCode secured streaming rights following previous collaborations with the JCA on pathway cricket.

While international boards juggle increasingly crowded calendars, as seen after Afghanistan confirmed their forthcoming schedule, this one-off fixture serves a distinct diplomatic purpose. The match forms part of the ‘Sport 75’ initiative marking 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

“Securing the exclusive rights for this historic match is a proud milestone for ITW Universe,” ITW Universe co-founder Bhairav Shanth said. “India playing Japan on Japanese soil for the very first time is a monumental moment for global cricket.”

India enter the contest as defending world champions, while Japan sit 41st in the ICC T20I rankings.
