Jasprit Bumrah returned to India’s T20I setup with an aggressive bowling workload at the Arun Jaitley Stadium ahead of their three-match series against Afghanistan.
The fast bowler operated in the second net between 7:25 pm and 8:10 pm, delivering a full-blooded spell. He missed the third ODI against England in July and the subsequent Sri Lanka Tests with a knee injury. His initial squad selection, which cricket outlet CREX confirmed was “subject to fitness clearance”, has now transitioned into a full-intensity workload.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Tested Under Delhi Lights
Bumrah directed relentless yorkers and short-pitched deliveries at 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, securing a thick edge and repeatedly beating the outside edge. The teenager, who cleared Bumrah for a first-ball six during the 2026 IPL, received an unforgiving reality check regarding international pace standards.
Sooryavanshi also endured a demanding 50-minute fielding session led by new bowling coach Shubhadeep Ghosh, missing three aerial chances during match simulations. Senior batter Shreyas Iyer was similarly troubled by the pace spearhead, beaten on both edges during his stint under the stadium lights.
Ishan Kishan Sustains Lower Back Tweak
Elsewhere during the practice session, wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan sustained a lower back tweak while awkwardly avoiding a rising delivery from Navdeep Saini. The batter fell to the turf holding his back before walking off the field on his own after consulting the medical staff.
India face Afghanistan in the opening T20I fixture on 13 September in New Delhi.
