Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India to expand its advisory committee with legendary former players to govern domestic and international fixtures.
The proposal follows East Zone securing the Duleep Trophy crown via a first-innings advantage.
Gavaskar criticised the regulation for encouraging defensive play during drawn matches and argued the committee must intervene.
Writing in a column quoted by the Hindustan Times, the 1983 World Cup winner proposed a wider mandate beyond selecting coaches.
Legends Proposed For Advisory Committee
“How about names like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Ravi Shastri, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag — to name a few? The President and Secretary will be there too,” Gavaskar wrote.
Incorporating such boardroom expertise would complement recent administrative efforts to honour Sachin Tendulkar in Mumbai.
The former batter added that legendary input would transform how the governing body manages the sport.
“When this committee interacts with the coach and captain and the head of the NCA, it carries a heft beyond measure. A similar committee for women’s cricket, too, where experience and expertise meet to take calls to take Indian cricket forward,” he added.
“Just thinking about this gives one the goosebumps. Will it ever happen, or is it just a dream?” Gavaskar concluded.
As India prepare for KL Rahul’s New Zealand Test challenge, the governing body must decide whether to reconstitute the dormant three-member panel.
