BCCI Confirms WPL 2027 Dates Ahead Of Champions Trophy

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has scheduled the 2027 Women’s Premier League to run from 14 January to 7 February ahead of an October auction in Kochi.

The fifth edition of the franchise tournament concludes just before the inaugural six-team ICC Women’s Champions Trophy begins on 14 February. Both events share principal host grounds, turning the compressed season into a direct venue test.

Shared Venues Face Double Workload

Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium and Vadodara’s Kotambi Stadium are set to stage matches across both marquee competitions. The immediate turnaround mirrors administrative moves in the men’s game, where the England and Wales Cricket Board recently altered their domestic calendar for Ashes preparation.

While Varanasi remains under consideration for domestic fixtures pending operational clearance, other established grounds face logistical hurdles. Speaking to The Times of India, a source confirmed Bengaluru was evaluated.

“The possibility of hosting WPL matches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was also discussed, but then it requires quite a few permissions from the local authorities,” they said.

Roster Overhauls Precede Kochi Auction

A statement published by the Hindustan Times confirmed: “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the key dates for the TATA Women’s Premier League 2027, with the fifth edition scheduled to be played from 14 January to 7 February 2027”.

Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the four rival franchises must finalise their squad retentions by 28 September. The subsequent mega auction takes place at the Grand Hyatt Kochi on 28 October, where teams possess a ₹15 crore salary cap to complete their 18-player rosters.
