India seam bowler Auqib Nabi claimed four wickets for 36 runs as 20 wickets fell on the opening day of Surrey’s County Championship fixture against Glamorgan at the Oval.
The 29-year-old dismantled the visitors’ top order, removing captain Kiran Carlson for a duck and Jack Hope-Bell for 33, before adding Billy Root to his tally. He finished with four for 36 from 10 overs. Glamorgan were bowled out for 132. Surrey then collapsed to 115 all out.
Seamless Adaptation To English Turf
The performance marked the final appearance of Nabi’s three-match short-term stint in Division One. His transition to English conditions follows a prolific domestic season where he secured the Ranji Trophy player of the tournament award.
Speaking on a video posted by his county and reported by CricTracker, Nabi highlighted his comfort with the surface.
“It was drier today as compared to last match, so I liked it because we have like kind of dry surfaces in India. So yeah, it was good and I liked it. I enjoyed bowling too. I enjoyed it very much. I always wanted to come here and play this kind of cricket. So yeah, I enjoyed it a lot,” Nabi said.
The right-arm pacer recently received his maiden international call-up for India’s Test series against Sri Lanka. His commanding overseas red-ball displays now strengthen his credentials for a potential Test debut during the upcoming tour of New Zealand.
