Cricket West Indies has appointed former New Zealand Women head coach Bob Carter as batting consultant on an initial one-year contract to overhaul regional coaching standards.
The 66-year-old began his role on 1 September 2026 and will immediately conduct an evaluation tour across six Caribbean territories.
Regional Assessment Tour Begins
Carter will visit Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, the Leeward Islands, and the Windward Islands to integrate technical modules into domestic high-performance pathways.
The board’s intervention precedes a crucial period for the national sides, who face six global events over the coming 30 months.
This congested schedule includes the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier in early 2027 and precedes an impending Bangladesh Test tour.
Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe outlined the necessity of this technical appointment.
“West Indies teams will participate in at least six global events over the next 24 to 30 months, including the Men’s World Cup Qualifier next February. Bob’s immediate job is to raise the technical standard heading into these events,” Bascombe told the St. Lucia Times.
Building World-Class Foundations
The consultant must deliver specialist guidance across men’s, women’s, and age-group structures.
Much like international rivals demanding significant batting overhauls before major tournaments, CWI expects Carter to upskill regional coaches.
“My focus has always been on supporting players and coaches to reach their full potential, and I am looking forward to working alongside the regional and high-performance coaches to help achieve that,” Carter said in a statement published by CricTracker.
Carter’s regional first-class visits commence later this month.
