Virat Kohli removes the tactical need for a generational transition ahead of the 2027 World Cup in Southern Africa following his exceptional run production since the 2025 Champions Trophy.
The veteran batter has accumulated 760 runs in 12 matches at an average of 76 across this period, registering three centuries and five fifties.
His childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma told India Today, in quotes published by CricTracker, that his current output secures his position.
“I think you should see for yourself what he’s doing, what he has done in the last few matches, and how he is doing it on the field. So I think it should not be a discussion even,” Sharma said.
Upcoming Indian White-Ball Schedule
Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma will next feature against the West Indies this month.
This forms a vital part of the scheduled West Indies fixtures before India travel for five matches in New Zealand this November.
India will utilise these fixtures to manage workloads for both veterans ahead of a three-match visit from Sri Lanka in December.
The selectors remain focused on stability rather than searching for explosive new white-ball talents akin to the powerplay impact of Marufa Akter in the women’s game.
Sharma confirmed Kohli’s elite conditioning continues to set the benchmark despite his retirement from T20Is and Tests.
“He had tremendous confidence in his own ability, and he works really hard. He’s got tremendous work ethics,” Sharma added via Hindustan Times.
India host the West Indies in the opening match of their three-game series on 27 September.
