Mitchell Marsh Leads Depleted Australia In Zimbabwe ODI Series

Mitchell Marsh returns to Harare as the sole survivor from Australia’s 2014 white-ball squad to captain a depleted pace attack in a three-match ODI series beginning on September 15.

The visitors will use the fixtures at Harare Sports Club to evaluate emerging fast bowlers ahead of the 2027 World Cup. Spencer Johnson and Xavier Bartlett will spearhead the seam attack in unfamiliar conditions, as senior pacemen Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc are rested until the subsequent South Africa leg.

Preparing For Global Tournament

Zimbabwe last hosted Australia for a 50-over format in 2014, when the hosts secured a famous three-wicket victory over Michael Clarke’s side. The upcoming series marks another crucial developmental stage for the home nation ahead of their co-hosting duties alongside South Africa and Namibia.

Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director Givemore Makoni outlined the importance of the series to the ICC. “We are delighted to welcome Australia back to Zimbabwe for what promises to be a highly competitive ODI series,” Makoni said.

The home side enters the series navigating leadership adjustments, with Sikandar Raza taking control following an injury to regular captain Richard Ngarava. Following these fixtures, Australia will travel to face a Proteas setup managing their own fast-bowling depth crisis.

The second one-day international takes place on September 18 at Harare Sports Club.
