Jofra Archer carved his name into Rajasthan Royals history with a decisive spell that not only shaped a win but also elevated him to the top of the franchise’s wicket charts in the Indian Premier League.

The England quick delivered a commanding performance against Lucknow Super Giants, claiming 3 for 20 in a tight 4 over burst. In doing so, Jofra Archer moved past Shane Watson to become Rajasthan’s leading wicket taker in IPL history, now sitting on 68 wickets for the side.

Jofra Archer Makes History with Record Breaking Rise

The landmark moment arrived in Archer’s 54th outing for the Royals, a testament to both his impact and efficiency. Watson’s previous record of 67 wickets had stood since his final season with the franchise in 2015, built across 84 matches.

Archer, by contrast, has reached the summit in significantly fewer appearances, underlining his influence with the ball.

On a surface at the Ekana Cricket Stadium that demanded discipline, Archer rose to the occasion while defending a modest total of 159.

His spell included a maiden over and crucial breakthroughs that halted Lucknow’s chase before it could gather momentum. Lucknow Super Giants were eventually restricted well short of the target, handing Rajasthan a convincing 40 run victory.

Pace Attack Delivers in Crucial Moments

Archer now leads a distinguished list of Rajasthan bowlers. Though Yuzvendra Chahal is close behind on 66 wickets from just 46 matches during his stint with the franchise between 2022 and 2024.

Archer’s journey with Rajasthan has been marked by phases, yet his importance has never wavered. After debuting for the Royals in 2018 and playing a central role through to 2020, he returned ahead of the 2025 season and has quickly re-established himself as a cornerstone of the attack.

Across his IPL career with the side, he has also delivered 4 maiden overs from 208 overs bowled. Thus highlighting his control in the shortest format.

The victory over Lucknow was not a one man effort. Support came from fellow quicks Nandre Burger, who finished with 2 for 27, and Brijesh Sharma, who returned 2 for 18, as Rajasthan’s pace unit proved decisive in closing out the game. Burger’s outing, however, came with a minor setback. The quick bowler was fined 10% of his match fee for a breach of the IPL code of conduct.

Royals Build Momentum in IPL Campaign

That result has lifted Rajasthan Royals to second place on the points table, adding further momentum to their campaign.

They now turn their attention to a home fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, where Archer will once again be central to their ambitions.
