Kent face a reshaped pace attack for their final two County Championship fixtures after Bangladesh recalled fast bowler Hasan Mahmud to manage his international workload.
The 26-year-old claimed 30 wickets across seven appearances in red-ball and T20 formats this season. His departure leaves the squad relying on Keith Dudgeon and Khaled Ahmed against Lancashire and Gloucestershire.
Kent sit third in Division Two, trailing Northamptonshire by two points. Director of cricket Simon Cook confirmed the club will rotate their remaining overseas options for the decisive home games.
“Whilst he will be a big miss, both of our other overseas bowlers, Keith Dudgeon & Khaled Ahmed, remain available for these last two matches of the Summer,” Cook told the Kent Cricket website.
BCB Prioritises Asian Games Fitness
Mahmud was initially cleared to stay until 27 September before selectors reversed their decision. The governing body ordered his return to Mirpur, mirroring the institutional strains behind recent reviews into player availability.
“Given the amount of cricket he has played and our upcoming schedule, his workload is getting excessive and he needs a break. That is why we decided he should return,” BCB cricket operations in-charge Shahriar Nafees told The Daily Star.
Bangladesh enter the Asian Games at the quarter-final stage in Japan on 29 September. The congested calendar follows repeated pushes for bilateral fixtures from emerging nations.
