Kent Batters Bear Heavy Burden After Hasan Mahmud Recall

Kent face intense pressure to secure maximum batting bonus points in their final two County Championship matches following the recall of fast bowler Hasan Mahmud by Bangladesh.

Mahmud took 26 wickets across four County Championship outings to push the Canterbury club into contention. The Bangladesh Cricket Board withdrew the 26-year-old to manage his workload ahead of the Asian Games quarter-final on September 28, followed by series against Afghanistan, West Indies and South Africa. Kent must adapt their promotion blueprint without a bowler who secured 30 dismissals in seven total matches.

Chasing Bonus Points At Home

Kent sit two points adrift of Northamptonshire, who currently occupy the final promotion place in Division Two. Without their primary strike option, the top order must deliver heavy first-innings totals against incoming opponents Lancashire and Gloucestershire. The reliance on aggressive run-scoring to secure vital points mirrors the recent domestic white-ball surge. Both remaining fixtures will take place at home against teams positioned at the foot of the table.

Director of cricket Simon Cook accepted the board’s decision while outlining the club’s remaining pace options.

Kent Cricket published Cook’s statement: “Whilst he will be a big miss, both of our other overseas bowlers, Keith Dudgeon & Khaled Ahmed, remain available for these last two matches of the Summer.”

Kent begin their penultimate fixture against Lancashire at Canterbury on Tuesday.
