New Zealand opening batter Finn Allen has signed a landmark three-year contract with the Melbourne Stars for BBL|16.
The 27-year-old departs the Perth Scorchers after the franchise was unable to match Melbourne’s lucrative offer to retain their reigning Simon Katich Medallist.
He joins a batting lineup featuring white-ball specialists Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis, assembling significant top-order firepower as the Stars aim to claim their maiden Big Bash title.
Establishing Proven Batting Firepower
Allen delivered a tournament-leading 466 runs and cleared the boundary a record 38 times during his final campaign in Western Australia, securing an unprecedented sixth men’s title for Perth.
“The Stars are a powerhouse team in this competition, so it’s going to be a lot of fun playing for them,” Allen said in a statement published by cricket.com.au.
“They’ve already got a huge fanbase and they’re only getting bigger, and I can’t wait to be a part of that,” he added.
“I think all cricketers love playing at the MCG, so to be able to call that my home ground now is really exciting.”
Completing The Melbourne Roster
The signing secures the 12th spot on head coach Cameron White’s 18-player roster, following Test-capped off-spinner Todd Murphy into the squad and echoing Tim Seifert’s recent Sydney switch.
Melbourne administrators continue to monitor prospective overseas additions, a strategy mirroring the recent Adelaide Strikers agreement for Ben Stokes, with England’s Jamie and Craig Overton linked to the vacancies.
The franchise will confirm its final six roster positions ahead of the BBL|16 campaign.
