West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin has signed a one-year contract for a third season with the Melbourne Renegades ahead of the WBBL 12 campaign.
The veteran pace bowler reunites with national teammate Hayley Matthews, who returns to the squad after missing the previous tournament following shoulder surgery.
Offsetting Alice Capsey Departure
The Renegades are leaning on their established overseas core after England international Alice Capsey departed the franchise for the Sydney Sixers.
The exit forces the Melbourne side to evaluate their remaining import slots while balancing all-rounder workloads across the domestic roster.
Dottin provides seam overs and aggressive top-order batting to complement an imposing spin attack. Matthews brings crucial off-spin to join the left-arm options of Sophie Molineux and the leg-spin of Georgia Wareham.
The resulting combination establishes one of the most formidable slow-bowling units in the Australian competition, softening the blow of Capsey’s sudden transfer.
“I’m looking forward to returning to the Renegades and especially playing with Hayley Matthews once again,” Dottin told cricket.com.au.
The franchise secured the tournament title alongside Dottin during the 2024 season. Relying on settled overseas combinations mirrors a broader domestic shift where structured franchise retentions dictate strategic recruitment across global leagues.
The club will confirm its remaining uncontracted list positions and evaluate final overseas replacements ahead of the tournament opener.
