Sydney Sixers sign Tim Seifert for BBL|16 campaign

Sydney Sixers have signed New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert on a one-year deal for the BBL|16 campaign following his dominant form in England.

The 31-year-old moves across from the Melbourne Renegades to supply essential top-order firepower. His arrival directly addresses a structural gap for the Magenta, with regular opener Steve Smith ruled out of the entire domestic tournament due to international commitments.

Hundred Final Heroics

Seifert travels to Sydney after a destructive English summer. The right-hander earned Player of the Tournament honours for the Manchester Super Giants, culminating in a match-winning 72 from 38 balls to defeat Trent Rockets in the men’s Hundred final at Lord’s.

Speaking to sydneysixers.com.au, General Manager Rachael Haynes highlighted the timing of the addition.

“Tim [Seifert] is one of the premier T20 batters in world cricket, and his recent player of the tournament performance in The Hundred is another example of the quality he brings,” Haynes said.

Wider Big Bash Recruitment

The New Zealand international has accumulated 90 T20 appearances for his country since debuting in 2018. His transition to the Sixers sits within a broader wave of overseas recruitment across the competition.

The move follows a busy negotiation period where Hobart Hurricanes finalised their Adam Zampa marquee signing and New Zealand white-ball captain Mitchell Santner declined an Adelaide contract.

Seifert completes an established Sydney batting lineup alongside Jordan Silk and Josh Philippe. The Sixers will confirm their full fixture schedule for the BBL|16 season next month.
