Melbourne Stars have secured England pace all-rounders Craig and Jamie Overton on one-year contracts to complete their primary overseas contingent for the upcoming Big Bash League season.
The move makes the Englishmen the first identical twins to feature in the tournament. Jamie Overton has committed to at least six fixtures, with his full participation dependent on potential selection for England’s ODI series in South Africa this January.
Adapting To Australian Conditions
Craig Overton prepares for his maiden BBL campaign following a productive domestic summer. The seamer claimed eight wickets to help Trent Rockets reach the 2026 Hundred final, before adding to his 121 career appearances for Somerset.
His recruitment highlights the increasing mobility of English talent, a trend visible as England Lions white-ball prospects expand their global footprint. This movement mirrors how overseas franchise leaps offer international cricketers valuable experience in diverse conditions.
Joining The Melbourne Core
The brothers join an experienced squad featuring international all-rounders Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis. Jamie Overton transfers from Adelaide Strikers, where he claimed 14 wickets last season to earn team of the tournament honours.
Speaking to cricket.com.au, Jamie Overton highlighted his anticipation for the new setup.
“They’ve definitely been building as a team and I want to be a part of their success. I always love playing in the Big Bash, so to get the chance to play for one of the most famous clubs in the league is going to be a lot of fun,” he said.
The Stars will open their campaign after finalising a squad that also includes New Zealand recruit Finn Allen.
